Cigna continues to reduce its statewide network of healthcare providers by terminating agreements with trusted healthcare providers. One of the latest victims: American Anesthesiology of Tennessee, a quality provider of anesthesia care at hospitals and healthcare facilities across Tennessee.

“Cigna’s aggressive actions toward physician groups like ours is part of a disturbing national trend. Insurers have a financial incentive to kick quality providers out of network to boost their bottom line, even when it disrupts the healthcare system and makes it harder for patients to access in-network care,” said Matthew R. Walsh MD, Regional Vice President, Clinical Operations, North American Partners in Anesthesia.

“At a time when Tennessee providers are facing unprecedented staffing shortages and financial challenges, we need insurers like Cigna to play fair and help us care for patients. If not, Cigna’s behavior threatens the ability of providers to keep their doors open and will make it more difficult for patients in rural and underserved markets to access the care they need.”

The agreement was terminated in January 2024.

American Anesthesiology of Tennessee takes pride in being an in network provider. The practice is currently in network with all other major insurers in Tennessee.
